7 Helpful Tips to Reduce First-Date Anxiety



Starting out your relationship with the opposite sex can be full of excitement.  However, since most relationships have to start out through dating, you need to be good at facing your first-date anxiety first.  This way, you will be able to successfully overcome your limiting beliefs and avoid ruining everything on your first-date.  If you are looking forward to your first date, check out the following helpful tips:

1) Do not forget the reason for your first date

The main reason why people agree to go out for a date is to get to know each other well and to see if they match together.  This means that you need to maintain a “getting-to-know” conversation with each other, but also trigger attraction in her. I wrote articles like

You have to keep in mind that being silent all throughout the date just because you were too anxious to speak is a recipe for disaster.

2) Try to figure out the common things between you and your date

During the first date, you have to be quick and sensitive enough to capture the common things between you and your partner. These topic can be a great source of topics for conversation.  Thus, your first date will not be boring and the efforts of being there will not be in vain.


3) Join group dates

If you think that you are the type of person who can hardly cope with first-date anxiety, consider joining group dates. This will help make the date become more fun and will also help you reduce your symptoms of anxiety.  However, you still have to make sure that you do not keep silent all the time.  Be conversational as much as possible.

4) Do not expect too much

It is normal for people to have high expectations during first dates.  However, you must pay attention to these expectations, so that they do not go overboard or else you will only be making yourself vulnerable to anxiety. Instead of having too much expectations, only expect for good things to happen.  This will help give you a positive outlook about your first date and reduce your anxiety.

5) Do it in public place

First dates can be exciting but on the part of girls, it can be filled with anxiety especially when they think about their safety. Thus, first dates have to be done in a public place. This will help ensure that both of you will be more comfortable with each other.

6) Do not be ashamed of being nervous

Except for people who have great confidence, first dates trigger feelings of stress and anxiety in both men and women.  This means that you do not have to be afraid of letting your date know that you are nervous.  After all, chances are he or she is also feeling the same way.

7) Do not pretend

One of the causes of first-date anxiety is the thought that the other person will not be able to like you or appreciate who you are.  But, pretending certainly does not solve this issue. Never ever make any attempts to pretend to be someone else or to be the kind of person you are not.  This can only lead to complications later in the relationship. Be real and show the other person your true self.

These are few of the many ways to reduce your symptoms of first-date anxiety.    It may sound a clich√© but first impressions sometimes do last. Therefore, try anything and find all ways to make your first date successful.

I appreciate the "be yourself" advice because that is what I do and I won't apologize for it! ;) BTW I seriously almost ordered mac and cheese on the date last night...I really wanted mac and cheese balls but they didn't have them (I settled on fried cornmeal batter - it was a southern themed bar).
